A kelpie is a shape-shifting spirit inhabiting lakes in Scottish folklore. Similar Legends are found in other Celtic Cultures, but almost every sizeable body of water in Scotland has an associated kelpie story. Often seen as a powerful and beautiful black horse with reversed hooves seeking human companionship enticing its victims onto its back by singing, carrying them into the waters it inhabits of the highlands. Many different stories are told in their own unique ways carrying lighter or dark traits.
